This year we have taken on 9 new (to us anyway!) local authority clients - three in Jan, three in Feb and three in March! Really excited to see what happens in April 😊 ! See our updated client map below.
- many of the projects are delivered by 3 ladies in the team, so in our mind it works as a title! Also it was International Women’s day this month, so a big shout out to the fab females (current and previous team members) that have made FRM the long standing success that it is 😊.
What are we saying?
At FRM, we regularly upload blogs onto our website throughout the year. See the links for our blogs here.
Our latest blog looks at the combined impact of pEPR, DRS and Simpler Recycling on the potential ETS cost for a rural authority, using the same waste composition dataset as the blog below and the one last month.
The secrETS of emissions trading costs for Local Government
Our preceding blog looks at the effect of pEPR on residual waste calorific value:

Some feedback from clients on recently completed projects:
“A high quality piece of work, that met the specification we set in a timely and VFM way.” – Coventry City Council
“The Operations Team at South Derbyshire are very pleased with the quality and detail in the report completed by FRM. This is helping us to shape the future collection methodology within the council and will be taken forward to committee in the near future. The team were professional, clear and competent.” – South Derbyshire District Council
What are we doing?
Waste Composition Analysis
We now work in partnership with Integrated Skills to provide effective analysis of Waste Composition, drawing out the strategic and policy implications of managing waste and recycling resource to benefit the municipal sector. We just submitted our finalised report and accompanying slide pack to Integrated Skills to be passed on to the latest client.
Strategy development
We continue to support the Lancashire Waste Partnership in developing their joint waste strategy & Royal Borough of Greenwich & Birmingham City Council for their municipal waste strategies.
Options Appraisals / service reviews
We are working with Nottinghamshire County Council as part of their Technical Working Group, alongside representatives from the Council, Veolia and Ceres, considering MRF adaptations required for Simpler Recycling.
We are continuing work providing an additional commercial collection TEEP assessment for a Council in the South East of England, following completion of their domestic collections assessment. This is through Integrated Skills.
We have been appointed by Harlow District Council to conduct a TEEP assessment for their domestic waste collections.
We also have new clients within Nottinghamshire; Ashfield District Council , Bassetlaw District Council, Broxtowe Brough Council, Mansfield District Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, and Rushcliffe Borough Council to undertake TEEP assessments for their domestic waste collections.
We are pleased to have completed the options appraisal of the waste collection service for South Derbyshire District Council.
ETS and EFW
We continue to support Gloucestershire County Council on pre-treatment options for residual waste sent to Energy from Waste. We’ll be looking at capital and operating costs, the potential to mitigate future liabilities under the Emissions Trading Scheme and the general viability of such technology.
We have completed the regional EfW capacity picture for Coventry City Council and the supply due diligence on behalf of a developer for a new Energy from Waste facility.
Efficient & Effective
We are undertaking a review of a waste disposal authority and its progress towards ‘Efficient & Effective’ services, under EPR and reviewing its ETS liability.
Where we have been and where are we going?
Cherie went to see Suez’s Renew Hub in Greater Manchester on 18th March, an event put on by the North West Resources Forum. There were some brilliant talks on waste crime, the history of reuse and behaviour change, plus a thought-provoking insight into Suez’s campaign to reduce abuse towards workers “We Refuse Abuse”.
Cherie also took part in her first CIWM Chartership interview panel this week, proud to volunteer and support the industry.
How we give back to our communities….
At FRM we donate 0.5% of all project fees to our social value fund, which enables us to donate to, and support, local causes, charities and environmental groups.
This year so far, we have donated £550 to charities.
Paul Frith will also be volunteering the next Bridgnorth Repair Café on the 11th of April.
